An American couple was caught trying to smuggle 375 pounds of fruit roll ups into Israel. They were stopped by customs officials at Ben-Gurion Airport, where the contraband was discovered in their luggage. According to the couple, the fruit roll ups were intended as gifts for their Israeli friends. However, Israeli law prohibits the import of almost all fresh produce and plant material, including fruit snacks. The couple was fined 11,000 shekels, equivalent to about $3,000, and the fruit roll ups were confiscated and destroyed. This incident highlights the importance of understanding local customs regulations when traveling to other countries, as well as the potential consequences of violating those regulations.
